Today the Senate took a remarkable step forward for education in Washington by passing ESHB 2261 by a 26-23 vote! The bill now returns back to the House, where it will be voted up or down. The House has until the end of next week to pass the bill and the Governor must sign it by Sunday, April 26th.

It is the tireless work and pressure from education advocates across the state that has gotten us to this point. Thank you all for your tremendous work this session. We’re only a week away from making history for Washington’s kids!

Let’s continue to pressure our Representatives and Speaker of the House Frank Chopp to urge them to pass education reform!

Read The News Tribune’s coverage on today’s vote.

Check out yesterday’s column by Senators Rosemary McAuliffe and Eric Oemig in the Seattle Times about the importance of 2261. The Times also ran an editorial supporting education reform.
